Bucksport Bay Healthy Communities Coalition has a new logo, an updated website, a newly revised Thrive program, volunteer opportunities and so much more to offer Bucksport, Orland, Verona Island and Prospect residents.
Good Morning Program - Local residents receive a weekly check-in call from a friendly volunteer to connect and share. If you would like to be a participant or a volunteer, check out our website for more information.
Technology Training - BBHCC teaches older adults how to use a tablet or laptop computer whether it is how to surf the Internet, write emails, use Zoom, or have a Telehealth appointment, our volunteers can show you. If you do not have a tablet, you may be eligible to receive one through this program.
Thrive - We all want to thrive where we live and this means we may need assistance connecting to local resources, learning about healthy eating, participating in recreational or fitness opportunities, finding transportation, access to health care and low-cost meals delivered and so much more. Enroll to become a Thrive participant for FREE and get access to our Healthy Living Planning and Resource Guide and meet with volunteers who can help you navigate. There are also free Thrive presentations locally and a weekly virtual discussion group you can participate in as part of this program.
Strength Training - Currently, we have two virtual exercise classes happening on Tuesdays at 9:00 am and Fridays at 10:00 am. The BBHCC office provides bands for those who enroll in the classes. If you are interested in participating, call 469-6682 to find out more.
Upcoming Programs:
Home Safety & Accessibility Repair Program - In a partnership with the Town of Bucksport and Habitat for Humanity, we are planning to offer a home repair program starting the Summer of 2023. Watch our website for eligibility requirements and general information.
Yoga Stretch - In a partnership with the Bucksport Senior Center, we are planning to start a free/low-cost weekly 45-minute Yoga Stretch class with opportunities for outdoor Yoga Stretch events.
Age and Ability-Friendly Committee - We are always looking for new members for this committee that provides leadership and guidance on projects in Bucksport that will further the mission of our age and ability-friendly town. The committee meets once a month on the second or third Wednesday of the month at 1:00 pm at the Bucksport Senior Center. Please email: consultant@bucksportbayhealth.org or call 469-6682 to get involved.
Volunteer opportunities include a call to a local resident, help with yard work, working at an event booth, training people how to use technology, and so much more. The first step is to complete an application on the BBHCC website.
