Safe, decent, affordable, and supportive housing is essential to building a healthy community. Housing Committee members oversee housing assessments, specialized studies, rehabilitation projects and development of model housing programs.

Gardner Commons, Elderly Housing, 67 Elm Street, Bucksport, ME 04416

26 Unit complex with (24) 1 BR apartments and (2) 1 BR handicap accessible apartments. All of these apartments are subsidized. This is a Section 202 PRAC property where the head of the household must be 62 years of age or older. Electricity, heat and hot water are included.

Smoking is NOT permitted in the units or common areas of the building. A designated smoking area is available outside the building.2nd floor units are accessible via stairs or elevator; lower counters/cabinets designed with elderly in mind; walk in shower w/optional drop down seat; Qualified applicants must be at least 62 years of age.

Jed Prouty Residential Care Home

The Jed Prouty Residential Care Home is a 16 bed facility that provides housing, meals, companionship, personal care assistance and 24-hour supervision to older persons and disabled adults who are unable to live independently.

To be eligible for Adult Family Care services a resident must meet the following criteria: 
    • Be 16 years of age or older 
   • Be unable to live alone because of a medical, physical,      cognitive or mental condition 
   • Require daily assistance with one or more activities of daily      living (such as bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, or      getting in and out of a bed or chair) 
   • Cannot require full-time skilled nursing care 
   • Willing to live in someone else's home 
   • Eligible for MaineCare or able to pay privately

Jed Prouty Residential Care Home

The Jed Prouty Residential Care Home provides private and semi-private bedrooms that are bright and spacious with private full bath or showers. The facility is located on Main Street in Bucksport with a wonderful view of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge/Observatory and Penobscot Bay. 

Services include: all home cooked meals and snacks; transportation to doctor’s appointments; activities; assistance with personal care and dressing; laundry services; medications dispensed by state licensed CRMA’s; RN consultant on staff.
